2025.12.17

To access, select 'Deep Think' in the prompt bar and 'Thinking' in the model drop-down. Once you submit your task, Gemini will let you know when your response is ready – generally in a few minutes.

Gemini 3, our most intelligent model yet, is available to everyone in the app

  • What: Gemini 3 Pro is rolling out to everyone in the Gemini app starting today, with higher limits for users in the Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra plans. It brings state-of-the-art reasoning to your most complex problems, and is our best vibe coding model yet. It can also reason across text, images, audio and video better than ever before. So whether you're uploading a video of you playing a sport to get advice on how to improve your form, or transcribing notes from a lecture that you missed, the Gemini app can help without missing a beat.

Starting from your first use, you'll also notice that responses are more helpful, better formatted and more concise.

Try Gemini 3 Pro by selecting 'Thinking' in the model drop-down.

  • Why: We want to make Gemini the most helpful AI assistant for everyone. With the advanced reasoning of Gemini 3 Pro, you can now tackle your most ambitious projects with greater confidence and efficiency.

Introducing visual layout and dynamic view in Gemini Labs

  • What: We're introducing two new experimental Labs features in the Gemini app: visual layout and dynamic view. Powered by Gemini 3 and new advances from Google Research, these features make your responses more engaging and interactive.

Visual layout uses multimodal capabilities to move beyond text, generating a visually immersive response with photos and interactive modules. These elements solicit your feedback and help you further customise Gemini's response across multiple turns. Try asking Gemini to 'plan a three-day trip to Rome next summer', and you'll get a visual itinerary that you can actually explore and customise based on what interests you.

Dynamic view takes this a step further using agentic coding capabilities. Gemini will design and code a unique experience with a user interface that's perfect for your specific prompt. For example, ask Gemini to 'explain the Van Gogh Gallery with live context for each piece' and you'll get a stunning, interactive micro-app that lets you tap, scroll and learn. Or, try uploading a photo of you and ask for fashion advice.

We're rolling out these Labs features to different subsets of users. Some users can expect to see visual layout or dynamic view in the tool menu of the Gemini app soon.

  • Why: We believe that the best way to answer a question isn't always a text-based response. By creating dynamic, interactive interfaces on the fly, we can help you explore information in a way that is more intuitive and tailored to your specific needs. Your feedback on these experiments helps us shape the future of generative UI.

2025.09.25

Update to 2.5 Flash in Gemini

  • What: An enhanced version of Gemini 2.5 Flash is now available to Gemini app users. Responses are now better organised with improved formatting. Gemini 2.5 Flash uses elements like headers, lists and tables to make even complex outputs clearer and easier to understand. We've also improved image understanding, so that Gemini can better interpret and respond to your uploads.

To feel the difference, try working through a problem at school or work involving an image, like a diagram, and asking Gemini to walk you through it; or upload your class notes and ask Gemini to organise, summarise or create flashcards for you.

  • Why: We're committed to continually improving performance and making Gemini a more insightful, collaborative partner. When it's better at understanding context and images, it's easier for you to create, interact and accomplish your goals.

2025.09.18

Your custom Gems are now shareable

  • What: Starting today, you can share the Gems you create with friends, family, and colleagues. Gems are a simple way to customise Gemini to achieve your specific goals. This means that you can tackle recurring tasks without retyping lengthy prompts and providing context each time.

Share your weekly meal planner Gem to help a friend get inspiration, or send your holiday planner Gem to a family member before their big trip. To share, simply open your Gem manager on the web and click 'Share' next to any Gem that you've created. Sharing Gems works just like sharing files in Google Drive, giving you control over who can view or edit your Gem. Visit the Help Center to learn more about sharing Gems.

  • Why: Turn your favorite Gems into a shared resource so you can help others also save time on repetitive prompting and get started more easily. Rather than creating from scratch, you can use a fine-tuned Gem with effective instructions with friends or even an entire organisation.

2025.08.26

Reimagine your photos with a prompt

  • What: Experience a new level of creativity with our latest image generation and editing model. We've improved how Gemini follows your instructions, making it easier to get the results that you want. Upload multiple images to combine concepts, borrow creative elements or blend scenes to create something unique. Plus, when you use your own selfie, Gemini does a better job of keeping your look consistent, so that you can star in any adventure you can imagine.

  • Why: We believe that the best creative tools are the ones that get out of your way and let your imagination run wild. This update is a step forward in giving you more precise control and powerful new ways to express your ideas. We can't wait to see what you create!

2025.08.21

Revisit your conversations: You can now search your Gemini chat history.

  • What: Find and revisit past conversations in Gemini. To get started, simply expand your navigation menu and tap the magnifying glass or the “Search for chats” bar. Enter a keyword or phrase, and Gemini will display all relevant conversations. This feature is live globally on web and mobile.

  • Why: This is one of our most highly requested features, and lets you collaborate more seamlessly with Gemini. No matter if you're working on a project from last week or searching for a prompt you crafted a month ago, the search bar helps you find what you need in seconds to keep your momentum going.

2025.08.13

Introducing temporary chat

  • What: Now you can have a quick, one-off conversation with the Gemini app that won’t be saved to your chat history. Our new temporary chat feature is great for when you're exploring private questions or brainstorming an idea that's outside your usual style. To start, select the 'temporary chat' icon next to 'New chat'. This feature will be rolling out over the coming weeks, starting today.

  • Why: With Temporary Chat, you can have conversations that won’t appear in your recent chats or Gemini Apps Activity. These chats won't be used to train Google's AI models or personalise your Gemini experience, giving you a clean slate whenever you need one.

2025.08.06

Study effectively with helpful revision tools

  • What: Dive deeper into your studies by generating unlimited custom quizzes. You can also create flashcards and study guides based on your test, or other class materials, for an easy way to review and reinforce your learning. This experience is open to all users over the age of 18.

  • Why: Effective studying is not one-size-fits-all. We want to provide a variety of ways for learners to master the topics that they're studying, whether that's sitting down for a long, challenging test, quickly reviewing concepts with flashcards or taking a comprehensive study guide with them on the go.

Understand complex topics faster with integrated visuals and YouTube videos

  • What: Gemini now provides a richer learning experience by automatically integrating high-quality images, diagrams, and YouTube videos directly into its responses. When you ask about complex topics like photosynthesis or the parts of a cell, Gemini will seamlessly weave in visuals and YouTube videos alongside the text to help you understand the information more easily. Integration of high quality images, diagrams and YouTube videos is available to all users.

  • Why: We believe seeing a concept is key to truly understanding it. Gemini now uses visuals to make complex information more digestible and memorable. This helps turn abstract ideas into concrete knowledge, making learning faster and more effective for everyone.

Go beyond the answer with step-by-step Guided Learning

  • What: Gemini now offers Guided Learning, a new mode designed to help you build a deeper understanding of whatever you’re trying to learn or do. Instead of providing a single answer, this feature guides you through subjects step-by-step, breaking down concepts and providing interactive help along the way. It's ideal for understanding complex information or developing a new skill. You can activate this tool using the 'Guided Learning' chip on desktop or the 'Learn' chip on mobile. This experience is open to all users.

  • Why: Learning isn't about finding the answer quickly; it's about grasping the underlying concepts. Our mission is to provide tools that foster genuine comprehension and critical thinking. Guided Learning moves beyond simple Q&A to create a more effective learning environment, empowering you to build lasting knowledge and the confidence to tackle any subject.

2025.08.01

Solve your most complex problems with Gemini 2.5 Deep Think

  • What: Starting today, Google AI Ultra subscribers get early, limited access to Gemini 2.5 Deep Think, Gemini’s most advanced reasoning mode. Deep Think is capable of thinking for longer and generating multiple parallel streams of thought simultaneously—much like how humans brainstorm to tackle complex problems – making it excel at iterative development and design, scientific and mathematical research, and coding.

Try it next time you need more brain power for your most complex tasks, especially those requiring creativity, strategic planning and step-by-step improvements. Select 2.5 Pro from the model drop down, and "Deep Think" will appear in the prompt bar. Submit your task with Deep Think enabled and Gemini will let you know when your response is ready – generally in a few minutes.

  • Why: We're committed to bringing Google's latest AI innovations faster to Google AI Ultra users, including our most powerful reasoning capabilities to help you tackle even the most complex problems.

You can schedule recurring actions, like finding local weekend music events every Friday, or one-time tasks, like asking for a recap of a keynote the next morning. Just tell Gemini what you need and when – it'll handle it for you.

Scheduled actions are available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans.

  • Why: We want Gemini to be your personal, proactive and powerful AI assistant, and scheduled actions can help boost your productivity in new and exciting ways with proactive help that free up your time.

2025.05.20

Create custom practice quizzes with Gemini

  • What: Starting today, you can generate custom practice quizzes to help you prepare for an upcoming exam or simply increase your knowledge of any topic – big or small. Create quizzes based on documents that you want to study, such as PDFs or class notes, or ask Gemini to create a quiz on a specific topic, and you'll get a dynamic quiz experience, complete with hints, explanations for right and wrong answers and a helpful summary at the end highlighting where you did well and where you may need to study a little harder. This experience is available to users over the age of 18 and to qualifying Google Workspace education plans.

  • Why: With Gemini’s intuitive and streamlined practice quizzes, learners can lean on the advantages of generative AI to help them prepare: unlimited quiz generation, personalized responses, and conversational learning experiences.

Create with Canvas

  • What: Discover new ways to create in Canvas! Starting today, the new Create menu lets you transform text into a variety of dynamic content, custom web pages, visual infographics, engaging quizzes and immersive Audio Overviews. With just a few prompts, you can now build fully functional personalised apps in Canvas that can use Gemini-powered features, save data between sessions and share data between multiple users. You can even save a shortcut to your apps on your phone home screen for easy access. Lastly, if there are errors in the app, Canvas will automatically try to resolve them for you.

  • Why: Whether you're writing, visualising information or vibe coding personal apps, Canvas helps you transform a blank slate into a share-worthy creation in minutes. Focus on your vision to create something awesome and leave the heavy lifting of generating, editing, and fixing things to Gemini.

Gemini gets personal, with tailored help based on your Search history

  • What: Starting today, Gemini can now use your Search history to give you even more helpful and personalized responses. When you select 'Personalisation (experimental)' from the model drop-down, Gemini will analyse your prompt and see if your past searches can make the answer better. This means you get answers that are more relevant to you, saving you time and effort. Users have told us this is really helpful for brainstorming, getting recommendations and quickly finding things you've searched for before. We're launching Gemini with personalisation as an experimental feature, available on the web today and gradually rolling out on mobile. It's available in over 40 languages and in the majority of countries around the world. The experience is not yet available to Google Workspace or Education users. Future usage limits may apply.

You're in control: Built with privacy and control in mind, your data is safe, secure and controlled by you. When you choose Gemini with personalisation, you'll be asked to grant permission for it to access your Search history. This is entirely optional: you can choose to opt in or out. You can also revoke access to your Search history at any time through a banner link provided before entering your prompt. You can view and manage your Search history at any time.

  • Why: We envision an AI assistant that truly understands you – your interests, your hobbies, your unique context – to deliver an experience that's tailored to you. Now, with an understanding of your past searches, Gemini doesn't just give you answers; it evolves with you, sparking new ideas effortlessly and building on previous discoveries with personalized insights.

Ask Gemini to remember the things you care about: Now rolling out to more users and in more languages

  • Why: Now, even more users can customize Gemini to better fit their needs and get things done more effectively.

Gemini with 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental) is now even better at completing complex tasks with access to more apps

  • What: For complex tasks that require multiple apps, Gemini's 2.0 Flash Thinking delivers improved performance by breaking down tasks and showing its thoughts as it reasons, plans and works across multiple apps. Flash Thinking can now connect to more of your apps like Calendar, Notes, Tasks, Google Photos, YouTube and Google Maps. You can ask Gemini to do things like search for YouTube tutorials on how to cook a specific cuisine for the first time, save the ingredients to a shopping list and search for supermarkets to run to, all in a single prompt.

Some apps are not yet available to Enterprise and Education users, but will be in the future.

  • Why: Switching between apps to complete tasks can be tedious and time consuming. We want to help users be more productive and save time completing multi-step tasks on the phone or desktop.

  • What: Gems are a simple way to customize Gemini towards your specific goals, so you can do more with less effort. It's like having a team of AI experts for help with everything from everyday tasks – like writing, translating and meal planning – to more complex problem-solving. To get started, choose from our pre-made Gems or quickly create custom Gems by listing specific instructions for your Gem to reference.

  • Why: We want more users to experience the magic of Gems. Whether you need a Gem for help writing in a specific tone and style, or expert knowledge on a niche topic, Gems can supercharge your productivity.

Built on the speed and performance of 2.0 Flash, this model is trained to break down prompts into a series of steps to strengthen its reasoning capabilities and deliver better responses. 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental shows its thought process to users so that you can see why it responded in a certain way, what its assumptions were and trace the model's line of reasoning.
